Welcome to the 2019-2020 School

Philosophy

Our practice within the classroom and with our families is supported by research-based theories, which are used to close the achievement gap for children who might otherwise have limited opportunities for elementary success.  Educational inequities is an important and widely discussed subject; therefore, we work tirelessly and only partner with those who have the same goal.

Mission

Looking ahead, we will continue viewing our work through both a microscope and a telescope, focusing on the most granular details, children's social and emotional support, parent and projected organizational partnerships. We will continue to focus on the larger idea of ambition and building an organization that acts in accordance with our values, and do what's right for the children and what's right for our community, because at the end of the day there is no separating the two.

The Value of Communication

A circle time with meaning

We value circle time and how we use this time to not only connect with children; rather, allow children to create and maintain continuous dialogue.

  • Every morning we set aside time for dialog and listening to each other.
  • Within our community, we are open to talking about all kinds of feelings, including joy, anger, confusion, fear and excitement. Talking about "feeling excitement"  is often different from getting excited. Learning the difference is an important step for a child learning to communicate and express their opinions.
  • We place an emphasis on letting children finish their dialog and then we offer opportunity for a response from our team of children. When listening; in addition, we focus on not interrupting but celebrating their efforts.
  • As children grow, we continuously introduce new language that your children will understand based on their current developmental stage and use progressive measures from that point.
  • We are not in a rush; as a result, our teachers take the time to sit and listen.
  • We show our interest by saying such things as, “Tell me more about ...”, “Really!” and “Go on ...” We pride ourselves on the ability to appreciate and ask children what they feel about the subject.
